Review: Symposium 2018

The 41st Scientific Symposium of the Gesellschaft für Unternehmensgeschichte took place in cooperation with the Business History Society of Japan (BHSJ) on 13 and 14 September 2018 at Haus Metzler in Frankfurt am Main. It was dedicated to the topic "Corporate Governance in Japan and Germany in the 19th and 20th Century". Over two days, an international audience of well-known and young scientists discussed various aspects of corporate governance in the historical and comfortable atmosphere of the Metzler House. The special focus was on a cross-national comparison. Among other things, the history of German-Japanese relations and Germany's influence on Japan after the opening of the country were discussed. But also the different development of the capital market structures, the company organisation and the corporate law concepts of the two countries - also always in relation to the USA and Great Britain - were discussed. In addition to research on general developments and trends, case studies underpinned the theses.
