Business History and geopolitical challanges
The conference theme: Geopolitical tensions have always posed significant challenges for corporations worldwide. This impact extends beyond military conflict and the armament industry to include virtually all branches. Potential consequences are disruptions or redirection of trade flows, shortages of raw materials or labour, expropriation and other political interventions, disconnection between headquarters and foreign subsidiaries, loss of foreign markets, the politization of marketing activities, increased insurance premiums due to elevated risks, cultures of secret business and smuggling, colonial dependence and independence, etc.
While business history has addressed related issues in various studies, the specific effects of geopolitical challenges have not been examined systematically. Berlin offers an ideal setting for this discussion, having been at the centre of the Cold War not only politically but also economically. However, the scope of the conference for sure must not be restricted to this historical period.
How to submit a paper or session proposal
The programme committee will consider individual papers, entire panels and round tables and other suggestions. Individual paper proposals should include a one-page (up to 300-word) abstract and one-page curriculum vitae (CV). Panel proposals should include a cover letter stating the rationale for the panel and the name of its contact person; one-page (300-word) abstract and author's CV for each paper; and a list of preferred panel chairs and commentators with contact information. The deadline for submissions is 15 January 2027.
